Would you like to help your child with making friends or managing their emotions at school? Sign them for our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) group this fall! We will be learning about labeling, expressing and calming big emotions as well as making friends and understanding their feelings. These skills are core to social emotional development and can help children have a better experience in school. The class utilizes the research-based Strong Start curriculum. Each session will include a brief social emotional skills lesson, hands-on project, related story as well as scaffolded social interaction time with a small group of peers.
We'll be using an evidence based social-emotional curriculum as a framework and meeting from 2:45pm-4:15pm on Wednesdays, starting 9/25 and running through 11/13. This group is designed for 4 to 6 year olds and incorporates active learning and play.
Outline of each session:
2:45-3:00- Welcome*: Warming-up and saying hello
3:00-3:30- Scaffolded social play
3:30- Transition Practice*
3:35-4:00- Skill building group: Story, song, game and/or craft project
4:00-4:15- Clean-up Practice* and saying goodbye
*Beginnings, transitions and endings are often challenging for preschoolers. We will be taking these times extra sloooooow to practice building these skills!
