EMDR FOR CHILDREN

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a treatment that can reduce the symptoms associated with trauma and other distressing experiences.

It works by using movements that are similar to the back-and-forth movement of our eyes during REM sleep. During REM sleep, the problem-solving part of our brain is particularly active. Sometimes, we experience this when we wake up with a new insight or solution after sleeping on it.

During EMDR treatment, we will stimulate this problem-solving part of our brain while recalling memories connected to negative and positive beliefs about ourselves. This promotes healing by reducing the vividness of painful memories and tapping into your adaptive thought processes.

What can EMDR treat?

EMDR can be used to treat a wide array of mental health concerns, including:

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and other trauma and stress-related issues
  • Anxiety and panic attacks
  • Grief and loss
  • Depression

For more information about EMDR, you can take a look at the EMDR International Association website.

Is EMDR right for me?

If you are considering EMDR and would like more information, we can set up a time to discuss your current concerns and treatment goals. EMDR can be used on its own or alongside other therapies, and can be conducted in-person or virtually. There are many options, and we can tailor a plan to your specific situation and goals!
